review of “wish hunter”

happy sunday, everyone! hope everyone is doing well. i just finished the fantasy novel “wish hunter” by jordan riley swan and hero bown! thank you to the publisher and for the free arc in exchange for an honest review! all thoughts and opinions are my own.

summary:
“Nadia Kaminski’s family has stolen wishes for generations, auctioning them off to skeevy business tycoons and politicians in back-alley deals. Their operation is simple enough. Find someone who gained a wish after saving a life. Trick the wisher into sharing a deep secret. Steal the wish.

And as a marriage counselor, Nadia has more access to people’s secrets than most.

But when Nadia comes across the perfect opportunity to steal a wish for herself, she takes it—and the rock star she’s stolen it from desperately wants his wish back.

As Nadia tries to figure out how to get rid of the cocky thorn in her side, she must face off against vengeful wish hunters, her all-too-powerful family, and the consequences of her own desires—because stealing wishes can be a deadly affair.”

★★★★★

wow, i loved the synopsis of this book and was super excited to receive an arc! i really loved the characters, worldbuilding, and the magic in this book.

the book starts off with nadia at her job, stealing a wish from a surgeon. she gets the wish and returns home, happy that they’re almost halfway done with their wish debt: nadia just received wish 50 out of the 101 wishes they need to return.

unfortunately, when she was handing over the wish to the wishmaster, an altercation happened and she lost the wish due to a fight. the loss of the wish wasn’t the worst thing either, because nadia’s wish trap broke, meaning she couldn’t even use it to collect more.

during the fight, her life was saved by a rock star named miles. he receives a wish due to his good deed, and when nadia spies the perfect opportunity to grab his wish jar along with his new wish, she takes it. miles is not about to let his wish go without a fight, though, so he arrives as nadia’s house to try to get it back.

as more debt gets added, people make promises and break those promises, wishes are transferred, nadia and miles go through a wild journey to pay off their debt and get their wishes granted. nadia learns the truth about her family’s debt, her grandmother, her sister, as well as her dead husband.

overall, i thought this book was amazing and had a great plot! it was really interesting and always had me on the edge of my seat as i watched what nadia would do next. the worldbuilding and magic was fantastic, and the book was thoroughly thought out.

i would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a new and imaginative fantasy novel to read! in the meantime, i will be waiting excitedly for the sequel!
